Agreed, the facelifted version, sport-packaged or non, has grown on me.
I didn't understand it at first but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it and the more it made sense.
Agreed that the pre-2008 brakes on the 55 are awesome. However, OP asked about the 350 and on that car I don't think there is a difference in pre-/post-facelift?

The post-facelift sport-package front bumper-cover is very nice. Not worth an upgrade by itself I'm sure, but every time I see it, I have to say it has a LOT of personality. The post-facelift non-sport-package bumper cover (the "cleft-palate" or "bucktooth" ) is also nicer than the pre-facelift I think.

The painted headlight interiors on the post-facelift (for certain exterior colors) is also pretty great.

Overall the outside appearance of the facelift car is an upgrade from the pre-facelift in my opinion.

I really don't like the cleft-palate bumper on the facelifted SLK. I like the continuous bumper on my 06 SLK55 with the mesh material across the lower part. It just seems to fit the character of the droopy McClaren-ish snout better for my taste.

IMHO, the facelifted version beats the older one hands down...if nothing else I find the silver coloured plastic buttons on the fascia a little "cheap" and way prefer the matching colour of the facelisted version...AND I would not want to part with the new front bumber, much sportier and unique.
Did I mention the short antenna, the gray front lights and the darkened back lights?
(btw any 171 is nicer than the 172 to me)...

Now, do I still have any friends left in the forum after this?

When I picked up my 2006 silver AMG they also had a 2009 black AMG and I didn't notice the difference between the two.

Anyone have any comparison pics?

I love how they made the noise "pointy" instead of "dippy" and the mesh grille next to the star.

Durkatlon said that the post facelift version has no side vents cause its "sport package" and not a real AMG. Real AMG facelift has side vents.

But yeah, taste differs indeed.
